Premium quality, New Zealand produced pure Manuka honey. Watson and Son specialise in the production of premium Manuka honey with innovative products which harness the honey’s antimicrobial properties. Situated in the Wairarapa region of New Zealand, Watson & Son has over fourteen thousand beehives placed in some of the most remote mono-floral Manuka areas of New Zealand.
Besides the sugar, Manuka-Honey mainly consists of the sugar by-product methylglyoxal (MGO). This substance was only discovered by the German food analyst Professor Henle at the TU Dresden in 2009. It is mainly methylglyoxal that makes Manuka-Honey so special and valuable.
Pure Manuka honey from New Zealand is gaining a reputation around the world for being a natural wonder due to its well documented and unique healing properties. All Watson & Son Manuka honey is harvested by Maori people with great respect for the land. The Maori philosophy of “Kaitiakitanga” promotes guardianship and urges people to tread softly on the Earth. Watson & Son are committed to ensuring the sustainability and long term use of the Manuka “taong” (treasure), and protecting the fragile elements of the NZ ecosystem.
Premium Manuka quality
- Premium quality, NZ produced pure Manuka honey - Every glass can be traced back to its beehive, where the Manuka-honey comes from. - Every charge is being tested from an independent, by the IANZ (International Accreditation NZ) accredited, laboratory
in New Zealand for its methylglyoxal content. - Without GM technology and chemical additives - Watson & Son is one of the biggest Manuka honey producer worldwide
Every glass of Manuka-Honey has a MGO+number on the label which is controlled in the laboratory. Additionally, every glass can be tracked back to the beehive from where the Manuka-Honey comes from, with the help of the printed barcode. This guarantees the customer transparency, validity and the high quality of Watson & Son’s active Manuka-Honey.
All types of honey have some therapeutic value, due to a natural antibacterial property produced by hydrogen peroxide. Bees gather nectar from flowers and take it back to their hive where they add an enzyme called glucose oxidase. When the honey comes into contact with moisture in the body, the enzyme slowly realeases the hydrogen peroxide at sufficient levels to kill bacteria but not damage tissue.
Molan Gold Standard Award
The Molan Gold Standard™ is a government accepted certification mark that appraises the natural marker methylglyoxal found in Manuka honey, and assures purity and quality. The Molan Gold Standard is set to give our consumers full confidence that what they are purchasing has an accurate, scientifically conducted measurement of the claimed methylglyoxal content.
The Molan Gold Standard™ was developed and named after the scientist who discovered the special antibacterial properties of Manuka Honey when applied topically, Dr Peter Molan MBE. Dr Molan is acknowledged as one of the world’s leading honey scientists and has been carrying out research on honey since 1981, publishing many well-known papers in international scientific and medical journals.
